Add in a dash of Kanye West and it’s easy to understand why the Minnesota native, who performs under the moniker deM atlaS, infuses his music with a mix of sharp-edged bars and bluesy vocals. Back in 2013 he dropped his debut EP ‘Charle Brwn,’ which highlighted his quirky affiliation for the Peanuts gang and earned him a spot on the Rhymesayers Entertainment roster. Since aligning with Slug and company, deM atlaS has released a string of critically acclaimed projects, such as his MF Doom collaborative mixtape, ‘MF Dem’. Earlier this year, his latest effort, ‘Bad Actress,’ arrived, which finds him bringing the force of his talents together across 15 tracks. Standouts include the swaying “Pneumonia,” “Bad Loves Company” and “Gratitude.” On the latter, deM atlaS performed a live version for us in our studio. Stripped of any accompaniments, his powers through an energetic rendition.
